Chicken Dumps Pig?

Yep, that was today’s lamppost headline of the day.  Chicken – dumps – pig.  I’m sorry to say, I couldn’t track down the actual story on the Daily Sun website to find out more about this sordid tale of heartbreak and inter-animal love. I tried. Instead I did dig up an alternative sensational chicken story that they ran last year.

It appears that the Daily Sun is a goldmine for catchy and unusual headlines and juicy juicy stories. I still remember sitting open-mouthed when I actually once heard a South Africa lady proudly proclaiming to her family that the only news she ever needed was printed on the headlines on the lampposts. That right there is really quite worrying.

Back to reality…… First of all, we saw a Dragon Crossing the road. It’s actually a large monitor lizard, you can read more about it here, and here.

Next, we discovered, a Severed Spider Corpse hidden among the pool toys. What a lovely surprise for any little children looking for something to play with. To be fair, it’s not the first time we’ve come across spiders in South Africa.

And finally, last but not least, we had a Giant Praying Mantis scaling the side of our house. Yes, we’ve had our share of plenty of bug encounters too. For example, we’ve had visits from all kinds of stinging creatures, like the Builder, the Carpenter and the Ninja.

What can I say, it’s just another day in Africa.

More on Living in Africa

There’s never a dull week in Africa. There have been weird weeks, spooky goings on, power cuts, Safaris, road trips and even when you briefly forget where you are, you remember with a jolt that you are in Africa after all, like here, here, here, here and here.
