A globe trotting Brit, this Jill-of-all-Trades is currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Recently, she’s finished a London School of Journalism course, written a handful of music and theatre reviews and enrolled in Jewellery School.  Her incoherent career history includes forays into direct marketing, customer relations, then a switch to finance.  Since 2004 she has been a ‘trailing expat spouse’, (or to quote her husband an ‘expensive habit’).  Along the way she has wrangled her 2 smallish children and acquired a portfolio of strange and useful skills and languages.

She’s now turning her attention to writing about some of the amazing, the awful and frankly bizarre aspects of the nomadic existence of life overseas.  The best place to start reading is by clicking right HERE.

Thanks Clara. I’ll be mostly offline until the new year. Am I allowed to accept the challenge then? Looking forward to it.

Yes of course! I’m also going to struggle over the next few weeks. We are off to Kruger after Christmas. Have you got any adventures lined up?

Enjoy Kruger. We’re just back from Garden Route/Franschhoek – wine, beaches, ostrich riding – all fab and now heading home-home for Christmas.

Thanks estelea, I came close to briefly losing my energy and sparkle during a 50 hour power outage this weekend, but hopefully I’m now back on form.

Hi! I found your blog by accident, I was searching for boarding schools. I’m a lot older than you, but i went to boarding school in the 1970s. I absolutely loved it. I’m in the beginning stages of writing a book about my memories, and just researching other people who went to boarding schools, and any blogs I can find. I’m also just setting up a blog about my life at boarding school which will go live soon. I look forward to reading your posts!

Thanks Georgie. Boarding school is certainly a character building experience. It’s a topic I’m sure I’ll be writing more about in the future.

What a fun blog. Funny to see how much our experiences have in common (I just read the hair raising post and had a laugh), despite being in completely different parts of the world. Here in Singapore, there’s less hair razing and more bewildered hairdressers, shaking their heads woefully and saying, “Aya, your hair so dry! So curly! Very crazy lah!”

    • Expatorama January 16, 2018 / 7:04 am

Thanks for reading. 🙂 Gaaah – do they try to straighten your curls or just cut haphazardly and hope for the best?
